Instead of one long review video, I thought I would start a new series of Quick Takes of my thoughts on different aspects of my 2008 Porsche Cayman. This first Quick Take I discuss my thoughts on the Cayman's manual transmission, seeing how this is my first manual car in about 7 years since switching to VW's awesome double clutch gearbox in my last two VW GTI's. http://chrisneuman.com http://facebook.com/chrisneuman http://twitter.com/chrisneuman http://instagram.com/chrisneuman

The 2014 Porsche Cayman is powered by a 2.7 liter 6-cylinder Boxer engine that produces 275 horsepower and 213 lb-ft. of torque. The car only weighs 2,888 lbs so the acceleration is brisk from a smaller displacement engine. The transmission is a 6-speed manual and 0-60 MPH times are better with the PDK trans. A best 0-60 MPH time of 5.5 seconds occurred with the Drive Mode set to "Sport" amd the Traction Control turned "Off". This car was designed for these roads... Too bad I still have to slow down for the blind corners ;P Turn in and balance is perfect for some canyon carving- however 2nd gear really IS too tall because as you can see I spent almost all my time in one gear even while going moderately aggressively on street roads- although everything was done on a closed course of course...... ;) Rev-match was off, but ESC/TC were on. Don't quite have the balls to turn it off in these very bumpy, semi-damp conditions. The mic didn't pick it up well but the Porsche Torque Vectoring system was working really hard and I could hear the rear brakes squeal every time I turn in in the tighter corners.

Presenting a thorough demonstration of a 2015 Porsche Cayman S with 6-speed manual transmission including Sport Chrono Package--including the rev-matching function--and Porsche Sport Exhaust. I demonstrate the automated blip of the throttle with SP engaged, showcase some audio differences with and without Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE) engaged, and finally demonstrate the function of hill hold assist, and auto restart upon stalling the engine. Check my other test drives at http://lotus-111.com 2014 C7 Corvette tested at Las Vegas Motorsport Speedway. The 2013 Porsche Cayman S was also tested on the same track. The real surprise came from the Corvette. The C7 is a real step up from the C6. The chassis is much stiffer, and the engine, even in this soft tune, is a real joy. The steering feel is good, unlike the Cayman where the mechanical connection is purely inexistent. The braking of the C7 is also very solid, stable, and with decent pedal feel. The only bad surprise cam form the auto box, that cannot match the PDK. I wish I could test the manual trans on the C7, which is in my opinion, the one to chose for track action. Finally, the only real negative feeling was related to the calibration of the ESP and traction control, very...
Porsche Cayman GT4 2018: to get 4.0-litre six-cylinder engine, is set for a big power upgrade. Porsche's next 718 Cayman GT4 is set for a big power upgrade. The smaller of the German brand's two sports cars is reportedly going to get the latest 4.0-litre six-cylinder engine from the new 911 GT3. Reports from Europe, where the new car has already been spied testing at Germany's Nurburgring circuit, indicate the new model could even carry the 718 Cayman GT4 RS badge because it will be so potent. The original Cayman GT4 was powered by the 3.8-litre flat-six from the previous generation 911 Carrera S and was good for 283kW of power and 420Nm of torque. The new 4.0-litre six found in the latest GT3 produces 368kW and 460Nm, which could be enough grunt to earn the 718 the coveted RS badge reser...
The six-cylinder boxer engines fitted in the new top models are based on the 3.4-litre engines from the Boxster S and Cayman S respectively. Thanks to optimised fine tuning they now deliver an additional 15 hp (11 kW). This means that the Boxster GTS now has an output of 330 hp (243 kW), whilst the Cayman GTS delivers 340 hp (250 kW). The torque has also increased by ten newton metres in each model. What's more, the Sport Chrono package is a standard feature in both mid-engine sports cars. This means that in conjunction with the optional Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) and the active Sport Plus button, the Boxster GTS sprints from 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, whilst the Cayman GTS is even a tenth of a second faster. As regards the maximum speed -- measured with the standard manual six-speed t...
